These care home residents are some of the only people in the country able to enjoy a drink and dance at the pub.

Whilst almost all pubs across Britain are shut, the residents of Chandler Court care home are still allowed to enjoy cocktails, a pint and a chat with pals.

Some 80 residents have been frequenting The Chandler Arms, their in-home pub.

Allowed in six at a time, Martin Dowell, 80, said: “It’s great to meet for a pint.”

The care home’s pub in Bromsgrove, Worcestershire has been respite for many during the pandemic, missing the social interaction it brings.

Boss of Chandler Court, Dawn Covill, said: “We all miss going to the pub.

“In these challenging times, there’s nothing like catching up with an old friend over a drink or two.

“So when residents told us they missed their local, we thought we’d bring it to them.”

The care home was able to set up a pub within their building.

This meant that it was allowed to stay open and residents could visit it in a safe, socially distanced manner.

“For many residents, the pub is associated with a lot of positive memories from their younger years, from their first-ever drink to countless hearty meals with family or friends, and everything in between.” He added.

“The Chandler Arms’ opening was a huge success and residents left with a smile on their face.

“Ironically, it turns out we’re the only pub in the UK to be unaffected by the tier restrictions, so we’re looking forward to our next pub night.”

Whilst the rest of the nation will remain unable to visit the pub until February 23rd at the earliest, these care home residents will be enjoying it up until then and beyond.
